ABOUT PILATES

FEEL BETTER THROUGH PILATES

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. IF it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”
Joseph Pilates

Many people of all ages and lifestyles turn to Pilates to address pain and limitation through more efficient body dynamics and alignment. Moving more consciously, with better alignment, with body mechanics that engage one’s physical resources in complementary, mutually supportive ways allows us to keep doing what we love to do. Let me help you be able to do what you love to do!

With regular practice, students will see improvement of one’s overall alignment and physical agility as well as increased strength. They’ll feel better, stand taller, and love the positive changes they both see and feel.

HISTORY OF PILATES

Pilates has a long established record of helping people of all walks of life reach their goal to achieve and maintain their top performance fitness level. Joseph Pilates, the creator of Contrology (what is now called Pilates) initially developed his method to rehabilitate injured veterans while he was interned on the Isle of Man in England during World War I.

Its popularity took off after he and his wife Clara opened up the first Pilates studio in New York City. Elite athletes and dancers flocked to the method, recognizing its unique benefits to their craft. It was also found to be especially helpful to those recovering from injuries and weakness as they worked to regain strength, alignment and muscle balance.

Over time, Pilates was developed to suit broader needs as a core strengthening exercise regimen anyone can use to stay strong and healthy. Today the universally popular form is practiced by professional performance artists, athletes, and average sedentary individuals who are seeking a better way to go through their daily activities.
