Amy the Artist

Amy “Ray” Kingwill is a lover of movement. Born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, her earliest memories are of being in the studios of Dancers’ Workshop. She returned to Jackson in 2020 after almost twenty years as a performer, arts administrator, visual artist and Pilates Instructor living primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today she enjoys encouraging others to move with curiosity, whether that be through pilates, functional fitness, Country Western Swing, Contact Improv, or conventional contemporary dance. What’s more she is pleased to do much of it in her hometown.

Amy finds great joy in finding unique ways to incorporate all her interests into her projects. In addition to continuing to choreograph, she also finds herself starting to follow in her family members’ footsteps through the use of visual arts including drawing, painting, videography, photography, and costume/set design. Amy holds a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and is a comprehensively certified Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Pilates Instructor, and Functional Movement Specialist, among other certifications and accolades of equally great and little importance. She still feels the most herself on a wood floor; seeking joy, silliness and pleasure in every roll and lift and hopes you’ll join her there sometime soon!

Choreography Highlight

Amy “Ray” continues interest in her ongoing project, “See Me”, where we give focus towards those who are not always seen, and the beauty we find therein. She uses movement, video, sound and story to highlight what she views as interesting.
